Adam Abrams Is Swallowed by a Whale in New ‘Whalefall’ Trailer
20th Century Studios will return to theaters later this fall with Whalefall.
Based on the 2023 novel by Daniel Kraus, the upcoming film stars Austin Abrams as Jay Gardiner, a scuba diver searching the ocean for the remains of his late father, Mitt Gardiner (Josh Brolin).
“Following the death of his father (Josh Brolin), Jay Gardiner (Austin Abrams) goes diving off the Central Coast of California in search of his remains, but is swallowed by a massive sperm whale,” the film’s synopsis reads.

“While trapped inside its belly with only one hour of oxygen left, Jay comes to realize that the hard-earned lessons his father imparted may be the key to his escape.”
The Team Behind the Camera
Directed by Brian Duffield and produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum, the film’s supporting cast includes Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd.

In the brief clip, Jay finds himself trapped in a living tomb beneath the sea, where he faces threats ranging from a giant squid to the massive sperm whale.

The latter creature eventually swallows the scuba diver whole, leaving him with limited time to escape.

While Whalefall presents itself as an underwater survival thriller, the heart of the story is the relationship between a father and son.
