‘Cars’ is Racing Back Into Theaters This Fall For Its 20th Anniversary
As crazy as it seems, the Cars franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary today.
On this day in 2006, audiences were first introduced to Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the residents of Radiator Springs.
A passion project from John Lasseter, Cars tells the story of a hot-shot race car who finds himself stranded in Radiator Springs, Arizona, a small town along Route 66 that has seen better days.
“Aspiring champion race car Lightning McQueen is on the fast track to success, fame, and everything he’s ever hoped for, until he takes an unexpected detour on dusty Route 66,” the film’s synopsis reads.

20 Years of ‘Cars’
In the 20 years since Cars first debuted, the franchise has expanded in exciting new directions.
To date, the series has spawned two sequels, two spin-off films, multiple animated series, and an entire land at Disney California Adventure.
As we speak, Disney is also working on Piston Peak National Park at Magic Kingdom, while a new Cars: Lightning Racer series is in development for Disney Jr.

In celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary, Cars is returning to theaters this fall.

Racing back onto the big screen this September, fans will have the opportunity to relive the adventure that started it all.
Ahead of the Cars re-release, Pixar has unveiled a new trailer highlighting the impact the film has had over the last two decades.
20 years ago today, a stop in Radiator Springs showed us that the journey matters as much as the finish line. 🏁
