A New ‘Aladdin’ on Broadway Photo Op Arrives in New York City
New York City’s Theater District got an infusion of new magic today, as a giant Aladdin lamp has been installed in the center of Duffy Square.
Celebrating Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway, the new photo opportunity was designed by Bob Crowley and will remain in place through June 15.

The Aladdin lamp was unveiled this morning during a special ceremony featuring a performance of “Friend Like Me” by the show’s current Genie, Caleb A Barnett.
Barnett Assumed the Role of Genie Earlier This Year
Barnett assumed the role of Genie from Michael James Scott, who retired earlier this year.

“Playing the Genie on Broadway has been the creative journey of a lifetime—one that pushed me, shaped me, and reminded me every night why I fell in love with the stage,” Scott said in a statement (via Playbill).
“This experience has changed me forever, and I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me. I’m endlessly grateful to my Disney on Broadway family for trusting me, uplifting me, and making this journey unforgettable.”

Joining Barnett for the festivities were ensemble members Keisha Gilles, Mikayla Renfrow, Anju Cloud, and Adriana Negron.
‘Aladdin’ on Broadway
Having celebrated its 4,000th performance last year, Aladdin is Disney’s longest-running Broadway musical.

Since opening in 2014, the show has delighted audiences at the New Amsterdam Theatre, earning acclaim and collecting numerous accolades along the way.
The current production stars Rodney Ingram as Aladdin, Sonya Balsara as Jasmine, Dennis Stowe as Jafar, and Barnett as Genie. Casey Nicholaw directs.
The stage production features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and a book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin.
