Pixar Shorts Return to Disneyland’s Tomorrowland Theater For the First Time Since 2020
With summer officially underway at Disneyland Resort, The Happiest Place on Earth is once again utilizing an overlooked location.
When visiting Disneyland Park this weekend, we were thrilled to see that the Tomorrowland Theater has reopened and is now hosting the Pixar Short Film Spotlight
Here is the story.
What Is the Tomorrowland Theater?
Before we get into the latest developments, let’s talk about the Tomorrowland Theater.
When the venue first opened, it housed Disneyland’s Circle-Vision 360 films, including America the Beautiful and Magic Carpet ‘Round the World.

In 1998, it was transformed into Disneyland’s version of the Magic Eye Theater. Like its EPCOT counterpart, the theater hosted 3D attractions including Honey, I Shrunk the Audience! and Captain EO.

Following the closure of Captain EO in 2015, Disney renamed the venue the Tomorrowland Theater.
After the rebranding, the theater hosted Star Wars: Path of the Jedi and Pixar shorts.

Unlike most Disneyland attractions, however, the Tomorrowland Theater did not reopen following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Until recently.
The Pixar Short Film Spotlight
As previously noted, the Pixar Short Film Festival has returned to the Tomorrowland Theater.
Currently, the attraction is showing three films:
Luxo Jr. – The first short film released by Pixar, Luxo Jr. tells the story of a baby lamp who finds a ball to play with. It’s all fun and games until the ball bursts.
Smash and Grab – After years of toiling away inside the engine room of a towering locomotive, two antiquated robots risk everything for freedom and for each other.
Lou – Originally screened before Cars 3, Lou tells the story of a schoolyard bully who learns that giving can be much more fulfilling than taking away.
How Long Will the Attraction Remain Open
At this time, there is no word on how long the Pixar Short Film Festival will operate in the Tomorrowland Theater. For now, it looks to be a part of Disneyland’s Kids Rule Summer celebration.
