New Aerial Photos Show Sweeping View of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
For years now, Star Wars fans have waited with bated breath for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art to open in Los Angeles.
Set to open on September 22, the new 300,000-square-foot building will house more than 40,000 items from George Lucas’s personal collection.

Co-founded by Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, the $1 billion project will feature 20 inaugural exhibitions and more than 30 galleries. Additionally, there will be a restaurant, theaters, learning studios, and a library.
“I’ve been doing this for 50 years now, and then it occurred to me that I don’t know what I am going to do with [all the art] because I refuse to sell it,” Lucas told attendees at last year’s Comic-Con.

“Art is more about an emotional connection. Not how much it cost, or what celebrity made it. If you have an emotional connection, then it’s art. I’ve worked with hundreds of illustrators in my life, and they’re all brilliant, but they don’t get recognized for anything. This museum is a temple to the people’s art.”
New Aerial Footage
Ahead of the Lucas Museum’s opening, Trung Phan on X shared aerial footage of the facility.
George Lucas new museum cost $1.5B.
Chicago and SF both turned it down.
So, it’ll open at Exposition Park in LA in September 2026.
It is 300,000 square feet and has 11 galleries holding art (Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo), valuable comics (Marvel, DC, Peanuts), original film… https://t.co/LF7zdRAvYF pic.twitter.com/pHtv4er9Cm
