“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu,” the film’s synopsis explains.
The Film’s Projections
The last time we checked in on The Mandalorian & Grogu, the film was tracking toward an $90 million domestic opening and a $160 million global debut.

After two days in theaters, those projections have now changed.

Internationally, the film is looking at a $69 million opening, for a global first-weekend cume of $167-$169 million.
What’s Next?
While The Mandalorian & Grogu may end up with the lowest box office debut of any Star Wars film, that does not tell the full story.

The previous record low for a Star Wars opening was held by Solo: A Star Wars Story. That film earned $103 million domestically in its opening frame.
The difference between the two films is that Solo had a $300 million budget, while The Mandalorian & Grogu comes in at $165 million.

As we have written about extensively, Disney does not need Mando to reach the heights of the mainline Star Wars films to turn a profit.
The big question now will be how the film holds up week over week. In the lead-up to the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu, it was clear that Disney was marketing the film to families, not just the Star Wars faithful.

If those families turn out next weekend, Star Wars may have another box office hit on its hands.
