Anne Hathaway Is Producing an ‘Ella Enchanted’ Series For Disney+

Even as The Devil Wears Prada 2 continues its historic box office run, Anne Hathaway has finalized plans to revive another one of her iconic romantic comedies.
According to a new report from Deadline, Disney+ is developing a new series based on 2004’s Ella Enchanted.
For those who may not remember, Ella Enchanted starred Hathaway as 16-year-old Ella of Frell, a young woman who was magically cursed with the “gift” of obedience at birth, forcing her to do whatever anyone commands.

After her mother’s untimely death, Ella is sent to boarding school, where she begins to learn the truth about her curse, makes a new “family,” and develops a crush on the prince of her kingdom.
What We Know About the Series
While the Ella Enchanted series is still in the early stages of development, the Disney+ show will reportedly draw inspiration from both the original film and the Ella Enchanted book on which it was based.

Moving away from the Cinderella roots of the original Ella Enchanted, the new series will instead focus on Ella’s coming-of-age story at boarding school.

Ella Enchanted will be written by Ilana Wolpert, showrun by Bet Schwartz, and produced by Wolpert, Schwartz, and Hathaway.
A Homecoming of Sorts
The original Ella Enchanted was produced by Miramax, which was then owned by The Walt Disney Company. Disney later sold the studio, which is now partially owned by Paramount.

The series will also bring Hathaway further back into the Disney fold.
