But the question is: where should you go?

In this article, we’ll be focusing on the Disney Cruise Line (DCL) versus Walt Disney World. Both destinations have their own unique experiences for you to enjoy, and you may even be able to visit both the white-sand beaches and theme parks all in one vacation.
But which destination has the most for you to do, will be the most bang for your buck, and has an itinerary of the best summer vibes?

All About the Disney Cruise Line: Summer 2026
DCL currently has nine ships in their roster: the Magic, Dream, Wonder, Fantasy, Wish, Treasure, Destiny, Adventure, and the newly announced Believe. These ships depart from a plethora of ports, both in the United States and internationally.
For the summer months of June through August, DCL has sailings through the Bahamas, Caribbean, Europe, and Singapore. The ports of departure are in Barcelona, Rome, Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, Singapore, England, and Vancouver.

The ultimate summer destinations on the DCL arguably lie within Disney’s two private islands: Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. To vacation at these tropical paradises, you’ll want to book either a Bahamian or Caribbean cruise.
Cruise Line itineraries to these locations range from three nights in length to ten nights. There are currently has 79 Bahamian and Caribbean cruises operating from June to August, and you can view all of their itineraries and dates on the Cruise Line website.

On the islands, you can swim with sharks, snorkel in the reef, and ride bikes to a lighthouse. but what if you care more about the ship than the destination? What can each ship add to your family’s summer trip?
What’s the Difference Between All of the Ships?
DCL begun operations in 1998 with the Disney Magic and their ships have evolved into four classes of vessels. The Magic Class includes the inaugural ship and the Wonder; the Dream Class includes both the Dream and Fantasy; the Wish Class includes the Wish, Treasure, Destiny, and soon to be Believe.

The Adventure is its own class of ship, as its massive structure (including three Marvel inspired rides), currently has no other twin ships. The newer ships, from the Dream class onward, also hold a larger capacity with more experiences than both the Magic and Wonder.
These new experience include the evolution of the AquaDunk water slide to the AquaDuck coaster (as seen on the Dream and Fantasy) and the Aqua Mouse coaster on the Wish Class of ships.

You can also make your selection of ship based on aesthetic and characters. If members of your party gravitate towards classic Disney, like Minnie Mouse and Dumbo, a five-night Bahamian cruise on the Disney Fantasy may be your style.
If you have princess-loving vacationers, the Wish and Treasure are great options. With Rapunzel on the stern and an Atrium Lobby themed to the dreams of Cinderella, the Wish is an elegant ship fit for royal vacationers.

The Treasure is an ode to Agrabah, with a beautiful statue of Aladdin and Jasmine on a magic carpet greeting you as soon as you board the ship.
Each ship offers something unique and exciting to your family, and no experience on a DCL ship is the same. If it feels overwhelming to decide which ship is best for you, consider using a MickeyTravels travel agent to make the process easier!

What’s New at the Disney Parks for Summer 2026?
Disney World is famous for their four theme parks, two water parks, and one incredible shopping district. There’s no shortage of things to do in Orlando, and in the summertime, Cool Kids’ Summer brings the magic to a whole new level.
Cool Kids’ Summer will take over Disney World from May 26 until September 8 and mainly brings exclusive character interactions to the parks. At Magic Kingdom rope drop, you may be able to see the characters riding the Carousel or Dumbo.

Also announced at Magic Kingdom is a new experience at the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland: Jessie’s Roundup. Here you’ll be able to enjoy some classic American cuisine with your favorite western toys in this new dinner and show!
This summer at the parks also sees the return of some beloved attractions. At Magic Kingdom, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad have recently reopened, while over at Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Starring the Muppets is set to open on May 26.

Epcot will also be seeing an upgrade this summer at Soarin’. In honor of America’s 250th birthday, Soarin’ is getting a new overlay entitled Soarin’ Across America, where guests will be able to see the sights and wonders of the United States.
Animal Kingdom also has some new friends visiting Conservation Station this summer: Bluey and Bingo will be meeting and greeting Disney guests!

Disney World is experiencing all kinds changes this season and you don’t want to miss the excitement, but when compared against a cruise, you have to ask yourself an important question.
Are you in the mood to relax with a picturesque view of the ocean, or do you want to explore a theme park from dusk until dawn?

Atmosphere: Beach vs. Theme Park
Disney World and the Disney cruises are two different atmospheres, but each with their own benefits. At the parks, you have more places to go, but potentially at a higher pace. On the sea, everything seems to slow down.
When it comes to the summer, the beach immediately comes to mind. Lounging by the pool, tanning under the hot sun, and eating ice cream cone after ice cream cone are all experiences to be had on a Disney cruise.

The cruises offer more down time as opposed to the theme parks, where you may be park hopping or standing in long lines. However, there are ways to make a Disney World vacation “relaxing” if you prefer this pace of traveling.
By relaxing at resort pools and even wandering around Disney Springs, you can take it slow at Disney World while still getting your favorite rides in. However, for the price of a trip, you may feel pressured to run around and get as many attractions done as possible.

With the long park hours at Disney World, you also may find more time to explore the parks and resorts. On a cruise, you get a limited time frame to explore off the ship, typically from either 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or any similar eight-hour structure.
Your trip is what you make it, so no matter if you’d prefer to rope drop Tron or watch a Disney movie on the cruises’ Funnel Vision, you’ll find a happy medium of exploration and relaxation.

Food: Is it Included in the Overall Price?
One of the more important things to consider for a trip is the budget for meals. Many vacationers believe it is easier when food is included in the overall price, that way all you have to worry about is scanning your MagicBand, not how much you have to budget.

A perk of choosing a DCL vacation is that your meals at the three rotational dinings and buffets are included in your price. You will only need to pay out of pocket if you elect to upgrade to the adult only dinings (like Palo or Remy), indulge in alcoholic beverages or specialty coffees, or want a sweet treat from one of the shops on board (like Joyful Sweets on the Disney Wish).
Knowing that your dining is paid for already is a relief when it comes to budgeting what you need for souvenirs and travel expenses, but Disney World also offers an all-inclusive dining option.

There are two dining plans currently offered for Disney World guests, the Quick-Service Plan and the Disney Dining Plan. Each dining plan is broken down and explained here, but if you do not elect to have a Dining Plan, you will pay out of pocket and at each restaurant, quick-service, or snack stand you visit.
The Total Cost of a Trip: Which is Cheaper?
To get a sense of what each trip will cost, we’ll be looking at two, five night vacations from August 9 to 14 for a family of four.

One trip will be at Walt Disney World, with a Room and Park Hopper Ticket package at Pop Century and a Disney dining plan. The other will be a 5-night Bahamian cruise on the Disney Fantasy, in a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with a Verandah, going from Port Canaveral to both Disney islands and Nassau.
For the Disney World trip, the price of the resort, tickets, and included food with the dining plan comes in at $6,450.72. For the Disney Fantasy cruise, the cheapest option within this stateroom category is on Deck 6, coming in at $6,947.44.

The prices are within the same ballpark, however the cost of travel will steepen these prices. Especially for the cruise, as you may need to fly in the day prior if you’re not local to the port of departure.
Ships tend to board early on embarkation day, so it’s recommended that you arrive the day before to save yourself the stress of missing your boarding time. With this also comes another room you may have to pay for, whether that be at the Orlando International Airport or on Disney property.

With this, the Cruise appears to be the more expensive trip. However, alterations to your Disney World trip, like where you stay or if you reject the dining plan, will impact this price.
Can You Do Both a Cruise and Parks Trip?
There is a chance for you to spend your summer both on the sea and in the parks. You can opt for a land and sea package that allows you to extend your vacation into the Disney Parks either before or after your sailing dates!

Cruises out of Port Canaveral are your best bet for this package. As this port is the closest to Disney World, you can take a bus from a Disney World resort to the port for your cruise.
Plus, if you opt to purchase park tickets, you now get to spend the day before embarkation exploring the Magic Kingdom!

You can’t go wrong with either a cruise or park getaway. What it boils down to in the end is what type of trip you’re looking for!
Both vacations allow for countless memories to be made, ensuring that you will have the best summer ever!
