R.J. Decker Has Been Renewed For Another Season; Completing ABC’s Schedule

ABC has made its final decision for the 2026-2027 television season, opting to renew freshman drama R.J. Decker for a second season.
The Scott Speedman-led series now joins Abbott Elementary, High Potential, Scrubs, and Shifting Gears, which were similarly renewed last month.

Overall, ABC decided to renew all ten of its scripted series. At the same time, however, the network is expanding its lineup with the addition of The Rookie: North.
“Written by Rob Doherty (Elementary) and starring Scott Speedman, R.J. Decker follows a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful — and crime-filled — world of South Florida,” the show’s synopsis explains.

“The series follows him as he tackles cases ranging from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, and a mysterious woman from his past who could become either his greatest ally … or his one-way ticket back to prison.”
How the Renewal Came Together
While R.J. Decker failed to match the linear ratings of Will Trent or High Potential, the series reportedly performed well on Hulu.

That success was enough to move the show off the bubble and secure a renewal.
Looking Ahead
The question now is how ABC will fit The Rookie: North into its already packed schedule.
