With Spirit Airlines ceasing all operations, thousands of travelers are looking for a new way to fly.
As the airline industry realigns, we have seen numerous carriers make operational changes. So far, this has included additional routes from JetBlue Airways, Breeze Airways, Southwest Airlines, and Frontier Airlines.

Delta Air Lines, however, is taking a different approach.
Delta Airlines Is Doing Away With Food and Beverage Services on Select Flights
Amid this period of intense scrutiny on the airline industry, Delta has announced that it is ending its Express Service tier of in-flight food and drinks. This means that travelers on flights shorter than 350 miles will no longer receive complimentary snacks and beverages.

“Beginning May 19, Delta is adjusting onboard beverage service to create a more consistent experience across our network,” a Delta spokesperson told USA Today.
“Even on the small number of flights without beverage service, our crew will continue to be visible, available, and focused on caring for our customers, like they do on every flight.”

It should be noted that travelers flying more than 350 miles will still receive full beverage and snack service.
The Real Culprit
While Delta attributed the change to “consistency,” rising fuel costs are likely a contributing factor.

As tensions in the Middle East continue, airlines have faced mounting fuel costs. The added expense has already contributed to broader industry changes, including the collapse of Spirit Airlines and service reductions at other carriers.
