A Surprise Episode of ‘The Bear’ Has Arrived on Disney+ and Hulu
Months before The Bear is expected to return for Season 5, fans have received a surprise new episode.
Titled “Gary,” the prequel installment of the fan-favorite series is a flashback that follows Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey (Jon Bernthal) on a work trip to Gary, Indiana, before audiences met them in Season 1.

“The two friends’ complicated relationship, uncovering new layers of Mikey’s mental state while offering crucial insight into the man Richie is when audiences first meet him in Season 1 — adding emotional context that reframes their story from the very beginning,” the episode’s synopsis reads.
The Episode Was Written By Moss-Bachrach and Bernthal
“Gary” was written and directed by Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal, with series creator Christopher Storer also directing.

The episode was first revealed by Moss-Bachrach on Instagram.
“COUSINS! PRIMOS! CUGINI!!! Get ready for GARY!!!! We are so excited to finally share this little adventure with Richie and Mikey,” he wrote.
“Making this was a dream come true. Thanks to the beautiful people of Gary, Indiana and as always Chicago, Illinois.”

What About Season 5?
While Hulu has yet to announce when Season 5 of The Bear will debut, the expectation is that the series will return in June.
