“Almost twenty years after making their iconic turns as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation,” the film’s synopsis reads.
The Film Was Expected to Deliver
Heading into the weekend, it was expected that The Devil Wears Prada 2 would deliver a domestic opening of around $73 million and a global debut of $180 million.

As it turns out, the film soared even higher.
A Stunning Start
According to a report from Deadline, The Devil Wears Prada 2 delivered a $77 million domestic debut this weekend.

Internationally, the film grossed an additional $146.6 million, bringing the global total to $223.6 million.
Amazingly, The Devil Wears Prada 2 not only gave Disney the second-best start for an MPA title this year, behind only Super Mario Galaxy, but it also gave both Streep and Blunt their biggest global opening ever.

The success of The Devil Wears Prada 2 is also notable because the film was released at the beginning of summer. Traditionally, this release window has been reserved for Marvel or Pixar.

In fact, Avengers: Doomsday was originally slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. When those plans changed, The Devil Wears Prada 2 moved into the slot.
A Look Ahead
With an estimated pre-marketing budget of $100 million, The Devil Wears Prada 2 may already have turned a profit for Disney.

The question now is how high the film can climb.
With limited competition on the horizon, The Devil Wears Prada 2 should have plenty of room to run.

No matter what, Disney is starting the summer of 2026 with a bang.
