New American Airlines Charger Rule May Impact Your Next Flight to Disney World
If you’re heading to Walt Disney World or planning a trip to Orlando soon, there’s an important airline update to know before you pack your carry-on.
American Airlines is rolling out new portable charger rules starting May 1, and they will affect how you travel with your devices.

The popular airlines have just made some new announcements that may impact your travel plans.
Under the new policy:
- You can bring up to two portable chargers, each under 100 watt-hours.
- They must be visible and within reach while using them.
- Chargers cannot go in overhead bins.
- Chargers cannot be recharged during the flight.

The airline shared, “We know our customers rely on portable chargers to keep devices powered throughout their journey,” the carrier stated.
“To support safety on board while ensuring our customers continue to have the ability to charge when on the go, American is requiring customers to keep these devices easily accessible during flight.”

The update comes as airlines respond to rising safety concerns. In 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration reported 97 lithium battery incidents on aircraft.
Other airlines, including Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines, follow similar rules.
