How I’m Planning My Spontaneous Disney World Trip
Sometimes I’ll be sitting at my desk, and I’ll suddenly debate a Disney vacation.
Today, I quite randomly gave in to temptation, and I blame Disney for it.

I was writing about the epic May that Walt Disney World has planned for its guests, so I quickly decided I need to be part of it.
Here’s how I’m planning my spontaneous, ill-considered Disney World vacation.
Why We’re Going

This story is 100 percent based in truth and further proof that I’m my own worst enemy.
My wife and I already have a Disney cruise planned for September, but Disney World is adding ten new attractions and experiences between now and the end of next month.

I wanted to be part of it, so I got to scheming.
I’m actually a Disney Vacation Club member but haven’t used my points for this year. In layperson’s terms, that means I have a hotel room I’ve already paid for in 2026.
I started checking dates for June and booked a room.

At this point, I contacted a friend of mine who’s a Cast Member at Disney World and told her we would be visiting.
Here’s where my plans immediately collapsed.

She congratulated me on my vacation and told me I wouldn’t be seeing her because she goes back to college on June 4th.
Thus, my wife and I went back to the drawing board and scheduled a trip for May 26th instead.

In case you haven’t kept up, that’s an inflection point at Disney World, with several new/modified attractions debuting that week.
We’ll get all of the following:
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets
- Soarin’ Across America
- Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run – Second Mission
- The Walt Disney Studios
- Disney Junior Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!

Oh, and we get a first crack at the new Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, too.
Long story short, Disney has heavily incentivized us to visit next month.
Covering the Basics

We booked the only room we could, and it’s hilariously overkill.
We’ll be staying at a Treehouse Villa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.

This seems like a good time to mention that only my wife and I will be going.
We had points we were going to lose and had already planned our main Disney vacation this year, so as ridiculous as it sounds, it made sense to us.

With the room booked, we now need park tickets, a flight, and some dining decisions.
I won’t bore you with flight details, but let’s be honest that getting to Disney can be a challenge right now.

My wife recently visited her family in Illinois, and she paid $220 both ways for just over 1,000 miles of driving.
As we speak, airline companies are asking the American government for help with their soaring fuel costs.

So, Disney flights may be more expensive right now, too.
I highly recommend working with a MickeyTravels agent. They know all the best ways to save money on your travel expenses.

The employees at this Diamond Earmarked Agency know all the best deals on theme park tickets and hotel rooms as well, which is another way to save.
For our part, we qualify for two discounts… or at least we thought we did.

There’s a Disney+ three-day ticket that would be perfect for our needs, but it unfortunately expires on May 22nd.
Another deal immediately begins on May 26th, our arrival date; however, this four-day, four-park deal doesn’t include park hopping.

With new experiences coming in May at all four Disney World theme parks, we’re definitely going to need Park Hopper.
Honestly, for us to do everything in 72 hours, I’m probably going to need an oxygen mask, too.
Other Considerations

We settled on a ticket package that works for us. It’s a three-day ticket with Park Hopper.
We prefer this package for this trip because we will fly out immediately on the fourth day of our trip.

So, purchasing a fourth day of tickets does nothing for us.
If we change our package at all, it will be to purchase Annual Passes, which we had unintentionally allowed to expire.

As fate would have it, this turn of events works better for us, as we’d only have five months left with our passes anyway.
Have I mentioned that I’ve become a Disney Cruise person recently?

Once you’ve decided on tickets, your hotel, and your transportation, the next choice is Disney dining.
This decision is fraught with peril for us, because I’m allergic to almost everything.

Disney Dining Plans
Still, I suspect we’ll get the Disney Dining Plan.
We prefer not to worry about money when we’re on vacation.

Using entitlements instead reduces our vacation stress.
Since we’re Table Service aficionados, the Disney Dining Plan allows us to sit down, relax, and savor a delicious meal rather than doing grab and go each time.

For most people the Quick-Service Dining Plan is perfectly fine, though.
I’ll note that Disney will bring back the Deluxe version of the Dining Plan in 2027.

If it were available now, we probably would purchase it instead.
So, my family is thrilled that Disney will bring back this option next year.

Since our trip begins in four weeks, we’ll be creating Advanced Dining Reservations this weekend.
This is the one drawback of a spontaneous trip.
Many of the most popular restaurants have already booked all their reservations.
Most fans won’t care, though. You’ll eat at EPCOT festivals anyway.
In-Park Decisions

Once we arrive at Disney, we’ll embark on a seek and destroy mission.
We’ll have new experiences at every park and only 72 hours to do as much as possible.

Since many of the experiences will be new that week, the lines will be literally the largest they will EVER be.
For this reason, we’ll ignore all the advice I usually provide you and purchase Lightning Lanes everywhere.

If we don’t do that, we have no chance at doing all the exciting new attractions at Disney World in May.
Frankly, I feel lucky to have gotten a DVC reservation, as May 26th is legitimately one of the biggest days in the 55-year history of Walt Disney World.

That’s partially why I wrote this article today.
I realized that fans like me are similarly considering impulsive Disney World vacations that week.

I’m here to tell you that the prices are tolerable, and the sooner you act, the better your Disney vacation experience will be.
