Roger Goodell Drafts ESPN in New Super Bowl LXI Spot
A historic moment in ESPN history will take place next February, when the Worldwide Leader in Sports broadcasts its first Super Bowl.
In the lead-up to the milestone, ESPN previously announced The Year of the Super Bowl, a 12-month, cross-platform celebration designed to blend storytelling, technology, and fan experiences in preparation for the big game.

“With the full strength of The Walt Disney Company and in collaboration with the NFL, ESPN has embarked on a year-long Super Bowl celebration,” said Jimmy Pitaro.

“This fan-focused initiative unites our company’s brands with industry-leading storytelling and technology to showcase football’s greatest stories, heroes, and moments like never before. Across our platforms, screens, and parks, we’ll build momentum throughout the year toward Super Bowl LXI.”
ESPN Has Already Begun Advertising
As part of the buildup to ESPN’s first Super Bowl broadcast, Disney has also leaned on its deep bench of talent to promote the event.

So far, promotional spots have featured ESPN personalities such as Scott Van Pelt and Stephen A. Smith, alongside characters like Buzz Lightyear and Iron Man.
Now, Roger Goodell has joined the campaign.

In a new television spot that spoofs the NFL Draft, Goodell “selects” ESPN as the broadcaster for Super Bowl LXI.
The moment sparks a celebration among ESPN personalities, including Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Mike Greenberg, as well as App-E.

After telling the Worldwide Leader that they are “on the clock,” Goodell shares an awkward hug with App-E before mistakenly congratulating Buck, who has previously called six Super Bowls, on his “first.”
