Disney+ Signs Multi-Year Development Deal With Japan’s The Seven
While fans around the world continue to flock to Disney+ for series like The Mandalorian, Loki, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, audiences are also increasingly turning to the platform for locally produced content.
Over the past several months, The Walt Disney Company has made a concerted effort to partner with regional producers to develop content tailored to specific markets.

In the last 18 months alone, Disney has reached agreements with ITV in the United Kingdom, Atresmedia in Spain, ZDF Studios in Germany, and Nordisk Film to expand its international slate. Now, another major market has been added to that list.

The agreement marks Disney’s first content development deal with a Japanese production company and is expected to establish a long-term pipeline that combines the creative strengths of both organizations.
The Seven Inc. is already an established player in the global streaming space, with a partnership at Netflix that led to the hit series Alice in Borderland, among other projects.

“In finding a partner who shares our aspirations, I feel both an expansion of possibilities and a profound sense of responsibility,” said Morii Akira. “Our mission is to take Japan’s signature human dramas and intricate settings and elevate them into entertainment that audiences around the world can connect with.”
Disney’s Japanese Streaming Strategy
For Disney, the deal represents another step in strengthening its Japanese-language content strategy.
“We aim to nurture distinctive Japanese stories that feel authentic, enduring, and meaningful to audiences,” added Narita Gaku, executive director of content production at Disney Japan.
