Pros and Cons of a Disney World Summer Visit
Don’t you think that 2026 is going by fast?
We’re already in late April, and that means you should be thinking about your summer plans.

Will you visit Walt Disney World this summer? I realize there’s a lot in flux right now.
So, let’s discuss the pros and cons of a Disney World summer visit.
Con: The Weather
To my mind, there’s only one big con with any summer vacation in Florida.

Lately, the Sunshine State has taken its name a bit too seriously. The bright rays have led to some occasionally oppressive heat, and it’s apparently starting early this year.
To be fair, that’s not just a Florida problem, though. The planet Earth has been a scorcher.

Disney
Over the past three years, the planet has recorded its hottest temperature ever on several occasions.
So, this particular con is less about a Disney vacation and more about the glory of air conditioning.

In fact, you’ll find that Disney World is a wonderful place to be during hot weather.
Many of the rides are indoors, while others are outdoors, but wet rides that cool you off.

Plus, the Florida rain showers often keep the temperature in check anyway.
Long story short, as far as cons go, this isn’t a big one.
Pro: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

On May 3rd, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen after an extended absence.
By “extended,” I mean a period that felt like an eternity for those of who love the ride.

For many years now, Magic Kingdom enthusiasts have counted on a double bill.
We know to head to Frontierland for a combination of this roller coaster and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Before that, Splash Mountain provided a similar thrill as Big Thunder’s partner.
Lately, poor Tiana has been off on her own, the only operational ride in Frontierland.

Thankfully, that dry spell ends soon, giving you a rare opportunity this summer.
You’ll be among the first guests to enjoy the new Rainbow Caverns section of the ride.
Pro: Bluey

On May 26th, Bluey’s Wild World debuts at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
I feel the need to stress that this version of the Bluey encounter will differ from the one at Disneyland Park.

Right now, families are gleefully celebrating Bluey’s Best Day Ever! at Fantastyland Theatre.
In five weeks, Bluey’s Wild World will provide similar great times for fans of the adorable Heeler pup.

Really, I don’t need to say anything more about this one. Bluey sells itself as a brand.
This is THE most popular new children’s franchise of the past decade.

So, the fact that Animal Kingdom is adding Bluey experiences at Conservation Station is a huge win.
Pro: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

I mentioned that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is returning soon.
Well, if you’ve been reading MickeyBlog, you know that it won’t be the first Magic Kingdom ride to make a comeback.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin beat Big Thunder to the punch by reopening in early April.
We’ve been singing the praises of Space Ranger Spin 2.0, which is much more user-friendly.

As much as we loved the old version, it had grown a bit long in the tooth.
Now, riders have much more freedom of movement while enjoying Space Ranger Spin.

When you visit this summer, you’ll still be among the first to try these new laser blasters.
Pro: Cool Kids’ Summer

Last year, Disney introduced an entirely new summer event, Cool Kid’s Summer.
Well, it wasn’t one event per se but rather a series of them at each Disney World park.

Disney hosted character interactions, dance parties, and games.
Fans loved every second of this party and begged Disney to bring it back.

Well, Disney has done its fans one better by introducing Cool Kids’ Summer.
Please note the slight variation in the name. It’s indicative of even more group activities.

When guests visit Disney World this summer, every park will offer unique entertainment.
So, your kids will never get bored, and you’ll have more time to relax and savor your hard-earned vacation.

For many families, Cool Kids’ Summer is an absolute game-changer.
You’re no longer just chasing your kids around the parks all the time.

Disney has added what’s tantamount to glorified babysitting activities. Doesn’t that sound wonderful?
Pro: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

Photo: Disney
Believe it or not, another Disney World ride will return this summer.
This one could even be described as an entirely new ride, depending on your perspective.

After Aerosmith officially retired, Disney reclaimed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
Right now, Imagineers are converting the old roller coaster tracks to a new theme.

And did I mention that this new version of the ride stars The Muppets?
Specifically, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem will star on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith will debut on May 26th.
Pro: Soarin’ Across America

And I’m still not done! We’ve got yet another pro to discuss, another ride update!
As part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration, the ever-patriotic Disney is doing something special.

Photo: Disney
Disney has filmed an entirely new version of Soarin’ just for this once-in-a-lifetime event.
On May 26th, Soarin’ Across America will debut at EPCOT. This new Soarin’ does exactly what the name indicates. It sweeps you into the air and shows you America!
Many of the country’s most recognizable landmarks will be on display, but that’s not all.

Photo: Disney
As with the other versions of Soarin’, you’ll also witness some of the most beautiful sights. Disney hasn’t announced how long the 250th anniversary version of Soarin’ will be available.
So, you should assume that this is a limited-time opportunity, which makes a summer visit all the more appealing.
