‘Buffy the Vampire’ Fans Take to Hulu Headquarters to Protest Revival’s Cancelation
Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans received disappointing news last month when Hulu canceled plans for a reboot of the series.
Initially announced last year, Buffy: New Sunnydale was set to tell the next chapter in Buffy’s story and would have seen Sarah Michelle Gellar reprise her iconic role as the titular hero.

Why Was the Series Canceled?
In the aftermath of New Sunnydale’s cancellation, fans were quick to assign blame for the project’s demise.

Early reports suggested that director Chloé Zhao was not the right fit and that the pilot script failed to meet Hulu’s standards.
For her part, Gellar pointed to an unnamed Hulu executive as a major obstacle.

“We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him,” she said.

“That’s very hard when you’re taking a property that is as beloved as Buffy, not just to the world, but to me and Chloé. So that tells you the uphill battle that we had been fighting since day one, when your executive is literally proud to tell you that he didn’t watch it.”
‘Buffy’ Fans Organize a Protest
Now, a month after the cancellation, fans are continuing to voice their frustration.
According to reports from TMZ, a group of fans gathered outside Hulu’s Santa Monica offices to protest the decision.

Wearing Buffy the Vampire Slayer apparel and carrying homemade signs, the group made its displeasure known.
While it is unlikely that the protest will change Hulu’s decision, it highlights the passionate fanbase the franchise has cultivated over the years.

Perhaps someday, those fans will get their wish, and audiences will return to Sunnydale.
