What Will Disney Be Like in August 2026?
Walt Disney World summer vacations are a 55-year-old tradition.
Since the beginning, families have happily loaded up their cars and headed to Disney.

More recently, the summer hasn’t proven as popular, though, which is a good thing.
Tourists who care about traditions and joyous family vacations can benefit from this change.

That’s especially true during one particular month. What will Disney be like in August 2026?
Well, let’s just say that clever vacationers can take advantage of a golden opportunity.
About Disney World in August
Before the 2020s, August vacations were wildly popular.
Families tried to squeeze in one last hurrah during summer before the school season began.

Also, Disney obliged by hosting everyone’s favorite event, an EPCOT festival we’ll discuss momentarily.
More recently, a combination of factors has reduced the August crowds at the parks.

EPCOT Crowds
Disney officials are aware of this trend and have aggressively combated it.
During August 2026, vacationers can discover several exciting activities in and around the parks.

Hollywood Studios Crowds
For starters, Cool Kids’ Summer will return this summer, and it’s bigger than last year’s version!
Disney is adding even more activities and experiences, including character greetings.

As we’ll discuss, that’s only the tip of the iceberg at Walt Disney World this summer.
Park officials are going all out to remind families of the greatness of summer vacations.

We’re getting several new attractions, at least one of which is for 2026 only.
Others will become a permanent part of a Disney visit, but you’ll experience them for the first time this summer.

So, the question becomes why Disney is pushing so hard for August vacations.
And the answer has to do with the weather. I’ll explain…
Let’s Talk About the Weather
Yeah, so in case you’ve somehow forgotten, summers have been rough lately.
Central Florida’s heat index temperatures have been, well, scorching.

Rain in Magic Kingdom
Of course, that’s not a trend specific to the greater Orlando area. It’s a global phenomenon.
At several points over the past two years, meteorologists have tracked the hottest day ever.

Magic Kingdom
That’s not something that should happen more than once in a short period of time, yet here we are.
Not coincidentally, summer theme park attendance has slipped during the 2020s.

EPCOT
Disney actually prices parts of June, July, and August as if they’re the offseason.
For many of us, that’s an impossible thought. So, the question becomes, “Is it really that bad?”

Magic Kingdom
The answer is “No,” at least not at Disney. Don’t get me wrong. The weather can be rough.
According to WeatherSpark, the average high temperature in Orlando in August is 90 degrees.

Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
As a lifelong southerner, I can tell you that 90-degree weather isn’t that bad.
The problems occur when the heat index reaches triple digits. How often does that happen?

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Well, Weatherspark notes that the average high ranges from 85 to 94 degrees most of the time.
When the temperature is 94 degrees, the heat index can cross 100 degrees, which is rough.

Tree of Life
Thankfully, the average low temperature is 76 degrees with a range of 73 to 78 degrees.
You will love Orlando when the temperature is in the 70s. And that’s not all.

Cinderella Castle
Rainfall cools down the parks, and it rains 59-67 percent of the time in August.
That’s somewhere between three out of five days and two out of three days.

Rain in Animal Kingdom
So, you can cool off a lot, and even when you don’t, there are dozens of indoor attractions.
What Can You Do at Disney World in August?
This right here is a loaded question because Disney is going aggro this summer.
The parks will introduce several new entertainment options, most notably Bluey.

Photo: Disney
That’s right, parents! You and your kids can head to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and hang out with Bluey!
Needless to say, this interactive experience will be wildly popular, which we already know.

Photo: Disney
Disneyland Park has already started its Bluey activity, and it’s creating a mob scene.
Animal Kingdom will have the same phenomenon due to the high demand for Bluey.

Bluey’s Best Day Ever
Remarkably, that’s not all, as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets will debut.
This version of the ride replaces the original, which closed earlier in 2026.

Similarly, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin just reopened after Imagineers redesigned it.
So, we’ve got state-of-the-art versions of already-popular rides this summer.

In addition, EPCOT will host a limited-time version of Soarin’ to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
Called Soarin’ Across America, the presumption is that it’ll only be available in 2026…or a year at most.

Photo: Disney
You’ll want to ride this version of Soarin’ while you can, as it’ll be historic.
Then, we have Cool Kids’ Summer, which became a sensation when it debuted in 2025.

Fan demand caused Disney to bring it back for 2026, and we’re getting even more entertainment this year.
All in all, Disney World will legitimately be better than ever this summer, especially in August.
What Can You Do in Central Florida in August?
Let’s start with an unusual, 2026-only option for Orlando entertainment.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are playing their home games here this season!

With Jacksonville’s home stadium under heavy construction, this is the new plan.
So, you can watch a pair of NFL exhibition games this August 30 minutes from Magic Kingdom.

The NFL and Jags have both confirmed that this option is just for 2026.
If you’re interested in watching the NFL without leaving town, this is a rare opportunity.

Of course, you can always hop on the Brightline and visit Miami instead.
Driving to Tampa Bay is also an option, or you can stay in Orlando for the University of Central Florida games.

The start of football season is always an exciting time in Florida, and you can be there for it!
In terms of other activities, Disney Legend Jodi Benson stars in Into the Woods on August 1st and 2nd.

You can watch the Broadway show at the Dr. Phillips Center if so inclined.
Theme park fans can also visit Universal Epic Universe in its second year.

I know that many of you waited in hopes that the crowds would die down after the first year.
Well, the time is now if you’re interested in checking out Universal’s most Disney-like park.
Final Thoughts
Here’s the thing about August. Schools go back in session earlier than ever.
So, families with children who aren’t school-aged can have a field day at Disney in August.

Photo: Disney
You’ll discover less crowded parks, and you’ll pay less for your vacation as well.
Meanwhile, those of you who do have school-aged children can still visit early in the month.

Most schools don’t start until mid-August, giving you a terrific vacation window to enjoy Disney.
Plus, there’s always the option to miss a couple of those less important early school days.

For everyone else, August is an ideal time to visit due to the lack of crowds.
Also, when you arrive later in the month, you have a chance at something I haven’t mentioned yet.

Over the past two years, the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival has debuted in late August.
That’s yet another reason why you’ll love visiting Disney World in August.
