BREAKING: Reopening Date Announced For Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom
The wildest ride in the wilderness is preparing to welcome back guests!

Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is in the middle of a major transformation, which has left the ride out of operation for over a year.
The thunderous attraction has been sorely missed by guests…but it’s chugging back into action soon! Here’s everything you need to know.
Big Thunder Mountain Reopening – Magic Kingdom
Big Thunder Mountain will finally reopen to guests on May 3rd, 2026!
The fast-approaching date isn’t too surprising, as we recently noticed testing was underway (and Disney already teased the attraction would reopen in Spring 2026).
The refurbishment included the installation of a new track and “refreshed passenger trains.” These changes will preserve the attraction’s classic feel while breathing new life into the mountain.
And good news for tinier guests–the attraction will reopen with a lowered height requirement of 38″!

New magic can be found throughout the attraction as well, with glorious caverns, phosphorescent pools, stalagmites, stalacites, and an ominous rumbling that points to danger ahead.
