Selena Gomez Will Make Her Directorial Debut as ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ Draws to a Close
Before Wizards Beyond Waverly Place comes to an end, Alex Russo has one more spell up her sleeve.
A sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place, the new series reunites audiences with the Russo family and follows an adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to forgo his magical abilities in favor of living a “normal” mortal life.

Now a married father of two, Justin’s life seems settled until his sister Alex, played by Selena Gomez, shows up with a young wizard-in-training named Billie. Soon, Justin must dust off his wand and train Billie to protect the future of the Wizard World, all while balancing his responsibilities to his family.
‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ Is Ending
Disney announced last weekend that the fan-favorite sequel series will return this summer for a four-part event, which will also mark Selena Gomez’s directorial debut.

Production is set to begin next week, and the special event will follow Billie, who is still reeling from losing her mother, Alex. She soon discovers that the only way to rescue her is to reunite with her long-lost father.

Ultimately, the Russo family must band together to save Alex and defeat the villainous Lord Morus.
A Streaming Hit
Since debuting in 2024, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has been a hit with both new viewers and longtime fans.

According to Disney, the series has become one of the top-performing streaming titles among younger audiences, ranking in the top five among kids ages 6–11, teens 12–17, and adults 18–24.
Additionally, the show has amassed more than 101 million views on the Disney Channel YouTube page.
