Which Rides Should You Rope Drop at Disney World?
In case you missed it, Magic Kingdom just removed one attraction from its early morning offerings.
Mickey’s PhilharMagic, one of my favorite shows, is no longer available during Early Theme Park Entry.

Mickey’s PhilharMagic
I had to laugh at this announcement because…well, who would prioritize that one?
We all know the value of Early Theme Park Entry, and we seek to maximize that time.

Early Entryisney
With all due respect to Mickey’s PhilharMagic, that ain’t it…which raises a question.
Which rides should you Rope Drop at Disney World?
About Early Mornings at Disney
Early birds come out way ahead at Disney theme parks, especially Walt Disney World.
Guests staying onsite at official Disney hotels gain Early Theme Park Entry as an amenity.

Early Theme Park Entry
I often describe it as THE most valuable of all Disney hotel amenities, and I mean that.
With Early Theme Park Entry, guests may enter Disney World theme parks 30 minutes early.

Early Theme Park Entry
Since nobody else is in the park at those times, you can ride some of the most popular attractions.
Even better, you won’t wait anywhere near as long to do so, which matters greatly.

Early Theme Park Entry
Here are the average wait times for the end of March 2026.
More than a dozen attractions average a wait of an hour or so. That’s a long time to stand in line.

Magic Kingdom Rope Drop Crowd
Thanks to Early Theme Park Entry, you can probably save at least half that time on many rides.
So, as long as you’re willing to get up early on vacation – not everyone is – you can achieve a lot.

Magic Kingdom crowd
Then, we have Rope Drop, everyone else’s answer to Early Theme Park Entry.
When you’re not staying at an official Disney hotel, you enter the park right when it opens.

Magic Kingdom Rope Drop Crowd
Then, you speed-walk (no running!) to your favorite Disney attractions.
Rope Drop isn’t quite as efficient as Early Theme Park Entry, but it’s still pretty good.

Animal Kingdom
You should be able to ride a couple of things within the first hour of your park visit.
If you’re not in a hurry to compete with others for the top attractions, you can do even more.

Hollywood Studios Crowd
As with everything else at Disney, you can strategize to maximize your park visit.
The question becomes, “Which rides should you Rope Drop?”
How to Approach Magic Kingdom
The first thing to keep in mind is that this article solely focuses on Rope Drop. It’s for everyone.
Early Theme Park Entry options are a topic for another day, and I promise to discuss it later.

Magic Kingdom Crowds
However, those options are a bit more obvious since you just follow the crowds.
With so few other people in the park, you can deduce which attractions merit prioritization.

Magic Kingdom Crowds
Once Disney theme parks officially open, all bets are off, as guests prove unpredictable.
Well, that’s true at most parks. Magic Kingdom behaves a bit differently for a good reason.

Magic Kingdom Crowds
The most popular attraction at the park right now is TRON Lightcycle / Run.
For various reasons, Disney doesn’t open this ride for Early Theme Park Entry.

TRON Lightcycle / Run
You can probably see where I’m going with this one. It winds up being THE most popular Rope Drop option.
Park guests know that this one isn’t an option earlier, so they flock to it at Rope Drop.
No, Don’t Do That
Personally, I think that’s a mistake, and here’s why. Early Theme Park Entry guests are smart.
They know that they can still gain a competitive advantage at TRON, so they do.

TRON Lightcycle / Run
First, they ride something else in the area, such as Space Mountain or Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
Then, they get in line for TRON ahead of the Rope Drop guests, negating the value for the latter group.

Space Mountain line
So, I consider Rope Drop at TRON literally the worst approach at this park. YMMV.
What I recommend instead is either Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or the Adventureland duo.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train remains the second-most popular ride after TRON.
However, this attraction is no longer the priority for many Magic Kingdom guests.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train line
You can be counterculture here and still save yourself a lot of time spent standing in line.
Conversely, you can head to Adventureland and achieve a couple of goals.

Pirates of the Caribbean
You can ride Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise early enough that the big lines haven’t formed yet.
Then, you can circle back to TRON and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train later.

Jungle Cruise in Magic Kingdom
Their wait times will remain relatively static throughout the day. So, you’re not really out anything.
The one caveat here is that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will be in higher demand for a while.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Those of you who pick it at Rope Drop/Early Theme Park Entry may be in for a shock.
The new version of the ride will give it stronger appeal throughout 2026.
How to Approach EPCOT
When Test Track 3.0 debuted last summer, EPCOT crowd behavior grew a bit more perplexing.
Before then, guests approached Rope Drop by targeting one of three rides.

EPCOT
They mostly started with the thrill ride, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
However, some went against the grain by heading to the World Showcase.

Cosmic Rewind
There, they could ride their preference of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure or Frozen Ever After.
Generally, Frozen is the more popular choice, but it’s still a far cry from Cosmic Rewind.

Frozen Ever After
For whatever reason, Soarin’ Around the World isn’t really a popular choice here.
Personally, I have Rope Dropped Soarin’ many times and enjoyed it greatly.

Soarin’
As usual, I’m squarely in the minority on this one, though. It’s just not a high priority for most.
Since Test Track debuted, EPCOT fans have largely settled into two camps.

Test Track
They save themselves the stress of a walk to the World Showcase, staying at the front of EPCOT instead.
While there, they get in line for either Test Track or Cosmic Rewind, which is smart.

Test Track Crowds
Personally, I’d recommend Test Track since some people do struggle with Cosmic Rewind.
The odds of your experiencing nausea on the ride are actually quite low, but why risk it?

Test Track
Test Track is much steadier despite the roller coaster section at the end.
How to Approach Animal Kingdom
Let’s just get Disney’s Animal Kingdom out of the way first, since it’s so easy.
Most park guests head to Pandora – The World of Avatar at their earliest convenience.
Pandora
The overwhelming majority of them choose Avatar Flight of Passage over Na’vi River Journey.
I’m again a contrarian on this point, as I prefer Na’vi River Journey, especially at Rope Drop.

Na’vi River Journey
Still, I can say with confidence that most of you will want to ride Avatar Flight of Passage early.
That way, you can avoid the larger crowds as the day progresses.
Avatar — Flight of Passage
My one warning here is that since many guests do this, it won’t save you as much time as you think.
Strategists can head to Expedition: Everest and ride it several times during the same timeframe.

Expedition Everest
I know you probably won’t do that, but I have many times. It works, and it’s an exceptional start to the day.
How to Approach Hollywood Studios
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the choices are plentiful, albeit with a clear favorite.
Right now, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance remains the park’s alpha with the accompanying demand.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
However, this ride is often mercurial during Early Theme Park Entry and Rope Drop.
You may discover it’s not open at first, which can start your day on the wrong foot.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Storm Troopers
For this reason, I actually recommend that you head to the ride with the longest wait.
Slinky Dog Dash often requires waits of 90+ minutes. At Rope Drop, you can cut that in half.

Slinky Dog Dash
I think that’s worth the risk, especially with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster currently offline.
Historically, I loved the morning daily double of it and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Tower of Terror
Right now, the bang for the buck just isn’t there. So, I think it’s clearly Slinky Dog Dash.
Should that ride not be ready or too long at the start, don’t even hesitate.

Slinky Dog Dash
Just head straight to Toy Story Mania! and Alien Swirling Saucers and have fun.
