PHOTOS: Construction Continues at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is still undergoing a major transformation, and we are bringing you updated photos of the progress.
The fan-fave attraction closed in January 2025 for what is expected to be a full-year refurbishment, and work is clearly moving forward behind the scenes.

Let’s check out the updates!
New Updates
We stopped by Magic Kingdom today to check out the progress of one of our favorite roller coasters! And things are definitely moving along.

New photos show heavy construction equipment on site, including excavators and active work zones.

Large sections of the track area appear to be cleared and rebuilt, but the biggest change we noticed? Most of the scaffolding is now down!

Crews are still working on structural elements, with visible framework and reinforced areas taking shape.

With the scaffolding down, we can see that portions of the iconic landscape appear refreshed. These changes and updates are a great sign that construction is moving forward, and we will be able to experience this ride again.

Coming Soon!
Disney is slowly releasing details about this beloved ride.

We know the attraction will feature an all-new show scene, refurbished ride vehicles, updated animatronics, and restored effects.
will officially reopen in early May as part of Cool Kids’ Summer.
