Marvel’s Punisher Special Gets Official Title & May Release Date
by Justin Hermes · March 25, 2026
Not long ago, it seemed that Jon Bernthal’s run as the Punisher had reached its end.
When Marvel Studios first revealed plans to revive the Daredevil franchise with Daredevil: Born Again, Kevin Feige and his team emphasized that they wanted to distinguish the MCU’s take on the Man Without Fear from the grittier Netflix version.

As part of that approach, the series was initially expected to adopt a lighter tone and dial back the violence.
Fortunately for fans, the 2023 Hollywood strikes gave Marvel an unexpected chance to regroup. After reviewing the completed episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, Feige reportedly felt the show wasn’t coming together as intended.
Overhaul and Return
Marvel ultimately chose to rework the series, reconnect it to the original Netflix Daredevil, and embrace a TV-MA rating. In doing so, the door was suddenly reopened for Bernthal’s return.

Eventually, he would not only return for Daredevil: Born Again, but also a new Punisher special and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’
After months of waiting, Marvel has finally announced that the highly anticipated Punisher special will hit Disney+ on May 12, the same day that the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 finale airs.

“As Frank Castle searches for meaning beyond revenge, an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight,” the special’s synopsis reads.
Based on its release date, it appears that One Last Kill will be set after the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but before Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
