FX continues to fill out the cast of Shōgun Season 2, as five new actors have joined the ensemble.
Before we get into the latest news, let’s talk about how we got here.
Shōgun originally debuted on FX and Hulu in 2024 and quickly became a ratings sensation and a critical darling.

Based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell, the series follows “the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds, John Blackthorne, a risk-taking English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him; Lord Toranaga, a shrewd, powerful daimyo, at odds with his own dangerous, political rivals; and Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, who must prove her value and allegiance.”
An Undeniable Hit
By the time the dust had settled on Shōgun Season 1, the series had earned a 99% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and become FX’s most-watched show ever.

Subsequently, the show shattered the record for the most Emmys won in a single year.
While Shōgun was initially conceived as a limited miniseries, the show’s unprecedented success changed those plans.
