Disney Earned $128 Million in California Tax Credits For Television Productions

The California Film Commission revealed earlier today that The Walt Disney Company has earned a combined $128.8 million in tax credits for filming in the Golden State.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios was awarded $94 million in tax credits for four untitled shows, one of which is relocating from another state.

Those credits cover the recently announced Family Guy spinoff, Stewie.
“California’s creative economy isn’t just part of who we are — it helps power this state forward,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom in a statement.

“From the folks on the soundstage to the people designing the sets, these are jobs that anchor communities. I’m pleased to expand this award to animated and competition shows, helping advance the strongest entertainment economy in the nation and bringing even more good-paying jobs to California.”
Disney’s Productions Will Bolster the Economy
In total, Disney is expected to spend $695 million on the 11 productions, providing jobs for 2,650 crew members.
Outside of Disney, California provided tax credits to other companies, including Warner Bros. Discovery, which received $127.9 million.

In total, the 16 television shows will generate $847 million in qualified state spending and $498 million in wages.
The United Kingdom Continues to be Disney’s Production Hub
While Disney continues to produce numerous series in California, the bulk of its production still takes place in the United Kingdom.

Last year, the British Film Institute revealed that Disney had saved $2.2 billion in tax credits from filming in the United Kingdom over the past 15 years.
Going forward, Disney plans to invest another $5 billion over the next four years in films, television, and streaming shows.
