PHOTOS: The Former Earl of Sandwich Building Has Been Demolished at Downtown Disney
Over the past several years, we here at MickeyBlog have been closely tracking the long-running saga surrounding Porto’s Bakery at Downtown Disney.
To quickly recap, in 2022 Disney announced that the beloved bakery would be coming to Disneyland’s shopping and dining district.

A Southern California institution, Porto’s has built a devoted fanbase over the decades thanks to its irresistible mix of baked goods and Cuban-American flavors.
The Initial Plan
While Disney never revealed an official opening date for Porto’s Bakery, the expectation was that construction on the new location would begin soon.

The plan called for Porto’s to take over the former La Brea Bakery space at Downtown Disney. When La Brea Bakery closed in January 2023, it initially seemed that everything was moving ahead as planned.
However, in the years since Disney’s original announcement, things have not unfolded quite so smoothly. Earl of Sandwich eventually moved into the former La Brea Bakery location, even as plans for Porto’s continued to develop.

What was originally intended to be a temporary arrangement ended up lasting for years.
Setbacks and Construction
At one point last summer, it appeared that Earl of Sandwich would finally vacate the space to make way for construction.

Ultimately, however, Disney once again delayed the restaurant’s closure, leaving Porto’s timeline uncertain.
Finally, last November, the temporary Earl of Sandwich location closed, and construction on Porto’s Bakery began in earnest.

The last time we checked in on the project, the Earl of Sandwich demolition was causing pedestrian traffic jams.

Now, we are back with another update!
The Building Has Been Demolished
When visiting Downtown Disney this afternoon, we were able to see the current status of the former Earl of Sandwich building.

With strong winds in the area, construction crews had removed the tarps that were covering the construction site.
As you can see, the former Earl of Sandwich has been completely demolished.

Now, work will begin on the new Porto’s Bakery building.

As always, be sure to check back with MickeyBlog. We will continue to update you on all the news coming out of Disneyland Resort.
