Hulu Orders a Pilot For Ryan Coogler’s ‘X-Files’ Reboot
by Justin Hermes · February 23, 2026
Three years after The X-Files creator Chris Carter first revealed that Ryan Coogler was developing a reboot of the iconic series, Hulu has finally ordered a pilot.
The hunt for the truth will shortly resume, as Danielle Deadwyler is set to co-lead the next iteration of The X-Files.

According to Deadline, the series will follow “two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents — one played by Deadwyler — form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”
A Long Time Coming
As previously mentioned, Coogler has been teasing his X-Files reboot for years. The series will be showrun by Jennifer Yale, who also serves as executive producer alongside Carter, Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, and Simone Harris.

Director Ryan Coogler attends the Black Panther BFI preview screening on February 9, 2018, in London, England.
The series is part of Coogler’s five-year exclusive deal with Disney.
His previous productions for Disney include Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ironheart, and Eyes of Wakanda.
“I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really [freaking] scary,” Coogler teased last year.

“We’re gonna try to make something really great and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.”
When Will the Series Debut?
At this time, there is no word on when the series will debut.
