After years of trying to find a new way for the Muppets to shine, Disney finally returned the iconic troupe to the Muppet Theater for some good old-fashioned entertainment.

“It’s The Muppet Show! Kermit, Miss Piggy and the beloved Muppet gang are back with a brand-new special event. Music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos are bound to ensue when The Muppets once again take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their very special guest, Sabrina Carpenter!” the revival’s synopsis teased.
The Big Question
Leading up to the return of The Muppet Show, Disney made it clear that the special was not necessarily the start of a new series.

For The Muppet Show to officially return, audiences needed to turn out.
“We are so excited to be back on the very stage where it all started, and then ended, and then is maybe starting again, depending on how tonight goes,” Kermit quipped during his opening monologue.

Now, we are beginning to understand how the special fared.
Strong Ratings and Stellar Reviews
According to Disney, The Muppet Show was watched by 8 million total viewers across ABC and Disney+ since it debuted on February 4.

Perhaps more importantly, the Muppets franchise also generated 125 million streaming minutes during that time.
Critically, the show has delivered overwhelmingly positive reviews.

As of this writing, the special holds a 98% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
