Porto’s Bakery Construction Causes Pedestrian Traffic Jams at Disneyland Resort
Over the past several years, we here at MickeyBlog have been closely following the saga of Porto’s Bakery at Downtown Disney.
As a quick recap, in 2022, Disney announced that the beloved restaurant was coming to Disneyland’s shopping and dining district.

A beloved Southern California institution, Porto’s has earned a loyal following over the decades thanks to its irresistible combination of baked goods and Cuban-American flavors.
While Disney never announced an official opening date for Porto’s Bakery, the expectation was that construction on the new location would begin in the near future.

The plan called for Porto’s to take over the former La Brea Bakery space at Downtown Disney. When La Brea Bakery closed in January 2023, it appeared that everything was moving forward as planned.
Construction Finally Begins
In the years since Disney’s initial announcement, things have not gone as planned. First, Earl of Sandwich moved into the former La Brea Bakery location, even as plans for Porto’s remained in development.
What was supposed to be a temporary arrangement lasted for years.
At one point last summer, it seemed that Earl of Sandwich would finally vacate the space to make way for construction.

Ultimately, however, Disney once again postponed the restaurant’s closure, leaving Porto’s future timeline unclear.
Finally, last November, the temporary Earl of Sandwich closed, and construction on Porto’s Bakery began in earnest.

The last time we checked in, the demolition of the old building was underway.

Now, we are back with another update.
The Path From Disneyland’s Esplanade to Downtown Disney Has Been Blocked
When visiting Disneyland Resort this weekend, we could see that additional fencing has gone up around the future home of Porto’s Bakery.

These construction walls have blocked off the pathway from the esplanade to Downtown Disney.

As the renovations continue, guests are now being directed to walk along the tram loading route.

While this operational change works fine for much of the day, it has been causing pedestrian traffic jams at the end of the night as guests leave after Disneyland’s fireworks.

Obviously, the new walkway is temporary.

It remains to be seen, however, how long the path to Downtown Disney will remain blocked.

As always, be sure to check back with MickeyBlog. We will continue to update you on all the news coming out of Disneyland Resort.
