The MOST Romantic Disney Movies for Valentine’s Day
As we all endure winter, February provides us with an opportunity to celebrate love. Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to buy a special gift or plan a romantic dinner.
Personally, my ideal Valentine’s Day celebration is a quiet evening at home. This year, I plan to snuggle up with my husband and watch Disney movies.

Disney is a renowned pioneer of great love stories. Today, I want to share the movies that are the most swoon-worthy.
Check out the list and get ready to be swept off your feet.

The Parent Trap (1998)
This is a remake that truly surpasses the original. Lindsay Lohan wowed audiences with her flawless portrayal of two people, but the love story makes the film timeless.
Watching the twins’ estranged parents fall in love again, nearly part ways, and ultimately reunite is a roller coaster I gladly re-ride. Also, the romantic settings of Napa Valley, London, and Pasadena make me want to plan a romantic getaway.

Truly, this movie has it all. And it still catches me off guard that this goofy, family film transforms into a spectacular romance in its third act.
I will always tear up when Nick Parker assures Liz that she “doesn’t have to cry hysterically”.

We’re all crying hysterically – especially since the cast has stayed in touch.
Enchanted (2007)
A loving tribute to all Disney princess movies, Enchanted may be the best one of them all.
Watching a cartoon princess fumble through the real world is entertaining enough. But the movie kicks it up a notch when the heroine falls in love with a real, imperfect person.

Enchanted is so much more than satire. It’s about embracing life, even when it’s messy. It’s about taking a leap of faith even when the happily ever after isn’t guaranteed.
With a backdrop of catchy songs and iconic New York City spots, this is a sweet film, despite gut punches of realism.

Hercules (1997)
This animated classic is full of fighting, monsters, and feats of heroism. But Hercules is also deeply romantic.
The film centers on Hercules’ quest for belonging and worthiness until he meets Megara. After falling head over heels in love, she becomes the center of his world.

Megara is a unique leading lady. Voiced flawlessly by Susan Egan, but she’s the only heroine with a tragic romantic backstory.
Betrayed by an ex-lover, Megara is a closed-off and suspicious character. And that makes her love affair with Hercules all the more satisfying.

Plus, is there anything more romantic than a leading man who will go to hell and back for his woman?
Tarzan (1999)
Similar to Hercules, Tarzan also centers on a fish-out-of-water hero. A hilarious and heart-wrenching movie, it becomes a romantic film when Jane is introduced.
It’s a delight to watch prim and proper Jane swoon over the king of the jungle. From their first meeting to the romantic swinging through the vines scene, the story is full of heart-stopping romance.

Aided by iconic Phil Collins’ songs, Tarzan is a touching 90s gem that can’t be ignored. I will gladly rewatch this film, just for the payoff of hearing Jane say in “gorilla” that she “stays with Tarzan”.

Beauty and the Beast (1991)
As timeless as its titular song, Beauty and the Beast didn’t win an Academy Award for Best Picture for nothing.
Set in a magical castle, this movie brings together two outcasts. A beautiful, misunderstood young woman and a prince living under a terrible curse.

Audiences have been enthralled for decades, watching Belle and the Beast become friends and then fall hopelessly in love. The famous ballroom dancing scene lives in movie infamy.
I don’t care how many times I’ve seen the movie or its musical stage adaptation; for me, Beauty and the Beast is Disney romance at its peak.

The animation, the magical soundtrack, and the heartbreaking finale keep me returning to the castle time and time again.
The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Loosely based on “The Frog Prince” fairytale, this movie put animated features back on the map for Disney.
The Princess and the Frog is a true homage to the 90s. Featuring gorgeous 2D animation, cheery Randy Newman songs, and an inspiring heroine – this movie has it all.

While I do love the romance between hard-working Tiana and former Playboy Prince Naveen, Ray the Firefly is the real hopeless romantic. Dedicated to his love (a star named Evangeline), Ray is utterly devoted.
While Ray’s death feels cruel and unexpected for a Disney film, seeing him reunite with Evangeline in the sky is gut-wrenchingly satisfying. Try not to bawl. I dare you.

Pocahontas (1995)
Unfortunately, this movie is remembered for NOT being a box-office smash, but I say it deserves adoration. Pocahontas is objectively a masterpiece. (Really, it deserves more cute merchandise.)
This beautiful and bittersweet film is awash with breathtaking scenery, unforgettable songs, and a romance that will touch your soul.

Centered on the romance of Pocahontas and John Smith, we see worlds colliding and a love fighting against tidal waves of ignorance. The realistic ending only makes the story more beautifully tragic.
This inspirational film’s message still rings true today. And it reminds me to be grateful for love in my own life.

There’s no denying it. Disney has a knack for crafting unforgettable romances.
Take my lead and watch one of these classics with your sweetheart. In the middle of winter, we all need reminders of the incredible hope and joy of love.
