D23 Spotlight Series: DCA’s 25th Anniversary Celebration
We visited the Disneyland Hotel yesterday, where the D23 Spotlight Series: DCA’s 25th Anniversary Celebration took place!
The event honored the park’s two-and-a-half decades of operation with a panel featuring former and current Imagineers, who discussed DCA’s rich, complex history.

While waiting for the panel to begin, attendees could pose with backdrops honoring the early days of the park!
That included designs inspired by “a bug’s land”…

…and Paradise Pier.

The first hour of the panel featured Imagineers who worked on building DCA in the late 1990s. The project was spearheaded by Michael Eisner.
There was an emphasis on including elements of California around the park (staying true to its name), which brought us Bountiful Valley Farm, the boardwalk, the vineyard section, and, of course, the Hollywood Pictures Backlot.

The second hour of the panel discussed how DCA was always meant to expand, starting with “It’s Tough to Be a Bug!”
Then, as Pixar grew, the park began to grow too, with the addition of Toy Story Midway Mania, Cars Land, and Pixar Pier.
Projects like World of Color were approved by Bob Iger, after receiving the initial concepts from Imagineers.

Jeanette Lamboy, Portfolio Executive Creative Producer, had the complex task of adding Marvel to the park. She introduced the concept of turning Tower of Terror into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
Bob Iger was the driving force behind the project being done in just 15 months, in order to sync up the attraction’s debut with the release of the franchise’s second film.

The panel also discussed the challenges of opening Avengers Campus during the pandemic.
Of course, they talked about the park’s future too, touching on the upcoming attractions inspired by Coco, the Avatar franchise, and Marvel.
