‘Hoppers’ Is Tracking Towards a Strong Opening Weekend
Fresh off the disastrous release of Elio last year, Pixar is preparing to return to theaters this March with the highly anticipated Hoppers.
The latest Pixar original film tells the story of a young girl named Mabel, who transfers her mind into a robotic beaver, allowing her to communicate with animals.

“What if you could talk to animals and understand what they’re saying? In Disney and Pixar’s all-new feature film Hoppers, scientists have discovered how to ‘hop’ human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals,” the film’s synopsis reads.

“The adventure introduces Mabel, an animal lover who seizes the opportunity to use the technology, uncovering mysteries within the animal world that are beyond anything she could have imagined.”
‘Hoppers’ Is Tracking Towards a Solid Debut
With just weeks to go until Hoppers hits theaters, we finally have an idea of how the film’s box office prospects are shaping up.

According to a new report from Box Office Pro, Hoppers is currently tracking toward a domestic opening of $40 to $50 million.
Such an opening would mark the best debut by a Pixar original film since Coco ($40 million) in 2017.

It would also give Pixar plenty of reason to celebrate.
Pixar Needs an Original Hit
While the studio recently delivered one of the biggest animated films of all time with Inside Out 2, Pixar has largely struggled to get original films off the ground.

In addition to Elio, Onward and Lightyear were both box office disappointments.
Meanwhile, Elemental delivered a disastrous opening weekend before eventually finding its audience and posting an extended box office run.

With Pixar forgoing a traditional June release for Hoppers, the film should have more room to breathe at the box office.
