‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Teasers Smash 1 Billion Views with a Marvelous Marketing Strategy
Marvel Studios just pulled off one of the boldest marketing experiments in modern movie history. The Avengers: Doomsday teasers have collectively hit a massive 1.02 billion views—and they did it without any of the usual tricks.
Here’s what makes this so impressive: No Super Bowl tie-in. No major TV broadcast event. Just pure fan excitement.

Marvel took a completely different approach in mid-December when they released the first teaser exclusively in theaters. The low-key spot featuring Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers played only in front of Avatar: Fire & Ash for five whole days before hitting the internet.
(Do you remember when that used to be the only way we got early teasers of new movies? I’m 35 and I remember!)

Then came three more weekly teasers. One featured Thor and The X-Men. Another showcased Black Panther‘s Shuri and M’Baku meeting Ben Grimm from Fantastic Four.
The strategy worked beyond anyone’s wildest expectations.
Social volume for each teaser averaged 188 percent higher than typical Marvel drops. The Avengers: Doomsday teasers now hold the record for highest Marvel trailer views on Instagram (505 million) and TikTok (103 million). They also spawned 16 organic trends on X, including “Doomsday,” “Steve Rogers,” “Thor,” “X-Men,” and “Wakanda.”

How Big is 1 Billion for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?
Just how big is 1 billion views? Consider this: Deadpool & Wolverine set records with 365 million views in 24 hours, but that included 100+ million Super Bowl viewers. Fantastic Four: First Steps hit 202 million in 24 hours with a major media event.
Doomsday did it with zero broadcast boost.
Marvel knew pirated versions would leak once the teasers hit theaters. People would record them on smartphones. But that didn’t dampen enthusiasm one bit.

Here’s another fascinating detail: Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t appear in any of the four teasers. He’s returning as Doctor Doom, but Marvel proved fans are passionate about the characters and their original actors even without showing their biggest star.

The film hits theaters December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following in 2027. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are back.

As Joe Russo cryptically teased on the Empire podcast: “Each one of those trailers is narrative information. And it’s all part of a larger story. And so, I would argue that Doomsday has already started for you.”
