Hope and Healing at Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend
Strength, hope, and healing. The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend brought an emotional story to the finish line this year.

Disney cast member and blood cancer survivor Nikki spent the weekend cheering as her mom, Sharon, ran her first-ever runDisney 10K.
She ran in Nikki’s honor and in support of Blood Cancer United, the event’s longtime charity partner.
A Scary Health Journey
Nikki’s journey began with a frightening discovery. “It all started with just a few bruises I couldn’t explain,” Nikki shared. “Within 24 hours of hearing the word ‘leukemia,’ I was on a flight to Seattle to start treatment.”

Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, Nikki underwent intensive chemotherapy followed by a full stem cell transplant. This is a process that rebuilds the immune system from the ground up.
Throughout treatment, Nikki’s mother never left her side. “She was with me 24/7,” Nikki said. “I don’t think there was a single moment she wasn’t right by my side.”
Remission

Today, Nikki has been in remission for two years and is living her dream as a Walt Disney World cast member. She is humbled and grateful to create meaningful moments for guests every day.
Blood Cancer United has been part of Marathon Weekend for over 30 years, raising over $96 million to support research and patients.

“That fundraising leads to new treatments and options for people like me,” Nikki said. “Runners supporting this cause are giving people hope and second chances.”
For Sharon, crossing the finish line was so much more. “Being able to support and honor my daughter by running the Walt Disney World 10K meant everything to me,” she said.
