Best Disney International Theme Park Stories of 2025
In 2025, The Walt Disney Company proved that it could still surprise everybody.
Disney announced a shocking theme park in a region that currently lacks the presence of Mickey Mouse.

Walt Disney Company
That’s easily the biggest topic as we discuss the biggest international theme park stories of 2025.
Disney Announces Abu Dhabi Disneyland

miral
On May 7th, 2025, many folks on Wall Street suddenly did variations of the same thing.
They either googled or asked ChatGPT about Miral. It was suddenly important to them.

Forbes
This company somehow persuaded Disney to license a theme park in Abu Dhabi.
Okay, the “somehow” isn’t hard to deduce. Miral will spend a fortune for its new park.

Disney will benefit in myriad ways from this agreement, as it’s decidedly one-sided.
Miral agreed to everything that Disney requested in exchange for the one thing it desperately wanted.

Disneyland Abu Dhabi will arrive at some point between 2030 and 2032.
You can watch Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announce the park:
Disney hasn’t added a new theme park in nearly a decade, which is actually important here. Shanghai Disneyland will turn ten years old on June 16th, 2016, which will come up again today.
For now, what matters is that the Chinese government approved that park in 2009.

Then, Disney confirmed the project in 2010 and began construction in 2011.
So, depending on your perspective, it took either six or seven years for it to come to fruition.

Should Disneyland Abu Dhabi follow the same construction schedule, it will debut in 2031.
Disney warmed to the idea for two reasons, one of which is pragmatic.

The Abu Dhabi theme park will be a four-hour flight away from one-third of the world’s population.
That’s three billion people who are currently nowhere near a Disney park that will soon have access to one.

Then, from the financial perspective, Disney doesn’t spend a dime on construction.
To the contrary, the aforementioned Miral, a local business in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will pay for everything.
Even better, Miral WILL PAY DISNEY for the licensing rights to Disneyland.
Disney and Miral Confirm It’s an Indoor Park

I’m totally serious about how one-sided this contract is in Disney’s favor.
Since your favorite company was under no onus to make a deal, they could ask for the moon and sky.

disney
Remarkably, Miral happily said yes, with local officials deliriously happy with the deal.
Disneyland Abu Dhabi will require plenty of creativity to bring to life, though.

Right now, Disney’s American theme parks are facing the challenges caused by global warming.
Walt Disney World’s June and July attendance has declined so much that they border on the offseason now.

Well, folks, in case you didn’t know, Abu Dhabi makes Florida look like Winnipeg.
The average high temperatures in June, July, and August are 104, 107, and 107 degrees.

That’s heat stroke weather at a theme park, and Miral knows it. And they have a plan.
Remarkably, Disneyland Abu Dhabi plans call for an indoor theme park.

The prevailing belief is that ALL of this park will be indoors, something that’s already been done here.
For example, Warner Bros. World™ Yas Island is entirely indoors, so it’s been done.

The difference is that Disney has never done it, but that’s what makes this project brilliant.
Disney needed to study this sort of theme park design anyway for its American parks.

Now, Miral will pay for all the research and development in creating an entirely indoor park.
Disneyland Abu Dhabi is a groundbreaking project for Disney, and the company will get paid a fortune for it, too.
Disneyland Paris Reinvents Itself on the Fly

Photo: Disney
We’re still witnessing this change as it happens, but it’s too dramatic not to mention.
Disneyland Paris added a second theme park in 2002, and let’s just say it could have gone better.

Disney
Walt Disney Studios Park has consistently been Disney’s least popular one in either Europe or North America.
The only other Disney park with consistent attendance problems has been Hong Kong Disneyland.

Disney
Last year, Disney officials decided that enough was enough, and they committed to a rebuild.
As we speak, Disney is in the process of reinventing this park on the fly, straight down to changing its name.

As of 2026, everyone will call it Disney Adventure World, and it’ll include World of Frozen.
The new themed land is the major addition to the former Walt Disney Studios Park.

However, Disney has already altered a lot in 2025, including the opening of World Premiere.
That’s the new entrance for the upcoming themed land. Disney Village has been revamped as well.

Frankly, if you haven’t visited this park in a year, you’ll barely even recognize it, which is the point.
Disney wants to eliminate the negative associations with Walt Disney Studios Park.

The company will turn the page to Disney Adventure World, which promises to be substantially better.
Hong Kong Disneyland Turns 20

Disney
This is a huge year for Disney’s Chinese theme parks, with both celebrating milestone anniversaries.
I’m not talking about a calendar year, though. It’s just something happening within 12 months.

On September 12th, 2025, Hong Kong Disneyland turned 20 years old.
At a couple of points, that achievement was in doubt, as the park struggled financially for a long time.

Then, during the pandemic, the park didn’t just close for an extended period.
The local government used part of the site for Covid treatment.

With Hong Kong Disneyland closing, reopening, and then closing again multiple times, its fate was perilous.
Thankfully, the park persevered, and now it’s in the middle of a yearlong party to celebrate.

Photo: Disney
The Most Magical Party of All started last June and will continue into June 2026.
Weirdly, its anniversary celebration will share some dates with Shanghai Disneyland’s tenth anniversary.

Photo: Disney
That’s noteworthy because the two parks are FIERCELY competitive with one another.
So, neither one gains a competitive advantage with its anniversary celebration.
Olaf Debuts Internationally

Photo: Disney
This story is only in its starter phase right now, but it’s about to change everything at Disney.
Olaf, the beloved Snowman from Frozen, is now roaming around a Disney theme park.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure – on Disney+
So far, Disney has done this solely for photo ops to sell fans on the premise.
The technology not only exists, but it’s already in place at Disneyland Paris.

Photo: Disney
Disney has shown videos of Olaf happily walking around the park and savoring the backdrop.
That’s one of the beautiful things about Olaf as a character. He’s so naïve and innocent.

Photo: Disney
Everything the snowman encounters is new, fresh, and exciting, often causing him to stop to admire the scenery.
How is this possible? I mean, snowmen still aren’t real, right? Well, that’s the magic of Disney.

Photo: Disney
Imagineers have created an Audio-Animatronic capable of independent motion and lifelike behavior.
Disney has indicated that Olaf will appear at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland to start.

Photo: Disney
The expectation is that he and other animatronics like him will soon become an everyday part of park visits.
Shanghai Disneyland Will Expand Spider-Man Land

Photo: Shanghai Disneyland
As part of its tenth anniversary celebration, Shanghai Disneyland is also undergoing changes.
Construction is currently underway for the Spider-Man roller coaster coming to the park.

Photo: Disney
Due to the popularity of the character in China, Spider-Man will get his own themed land.
Park officials promise “unique retail, dining and entertainment experiences that expand Spider-Man’s story.”

Photo: Disney
I’ve read enough comics to know that this means constant attacks from Doc Ock and the Green Goblin.
Actually, since it’s Disney, we’re probably just talking about plenty of Spidey merch and snacks.

Either way, it sounds like a blast and also counters the exclusive Iron Man ride at Hong Kong Disneyland.
Did I mention these two parks are competitive? Anyway, 2026 promises to be a big year at Shanghai Disneyland.

The park’s tenth anniversary and ambitious expansion plans should create plenty of intrigue.
