From Walt Disney’s apartment above the firehouse to the historic Dominguez Palm tree that honors the family farm that previously stood in Disneyland’s place–there are a lot of cool resort facts.
But there’s always more to learn, and Disney shared some fun facts from a Disney legend. Let’s check them out!
Bob Gurr’s Facts – Disneyland
In honor of the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, Disney shared magical facts about the resort straight from Bob Gurr–one of the original Imagineers who was hired to design Disneyland! (Who better to provide facts about the park?)
Check out the video, which was posted on Disney’s Instagram:

Here are the facts!
In the mornings, Walt would drive the fire engine around the park! While taking his drive through Main Street, U.S.A., he’d look for things to improve.

Main Street, U.S.A. is scaled down, so when Bob Gurr designed the Omnibus, he had to scale it down as well to fit the scene! Of course, you can’t scale down the people riding the bus, so he teased at finding a “tricky way” to resize.
Remember that the next time you take a ride!

Bob Gurr designed the excursion train at Disneyland to be a copy of a Narragansett type of train, which would take people on picnics!

Bob Gurr drove the fire engine down the freeway in 1958 to transport it to Disneyland!

In 1959, Disneyland’s monorail was the first monorail to operate in the Western Hemisphere. Oh–and Bob Gurr designed it!

Staying in 1959, the Matterhorn was the first tubular steel roller coaster in the world and set the scene for modern-day roller coasters
