Mark Hamill Tried to Get a Luke, Leia, and Han Reunion in the Sequel Trilogy
While the Star Wars sequel trilogy is beloved by many, one creative decision has drawn the ire of fans since the films debuted.
No, I am not talking about Poe’s declaration that “somehow, Palpatine returned.” I am talking about the decision not to reunite Luke, Leia, and Han.

Despite the fact that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher reprised their iconic roles in the Star Wars sequels, we never got to see the original trilogy triumphantly together.
From the moment the film hit the big screen, it was clear that Disney had made a major mistake.
While fans have continued to voice their displeasure at the decision, Star Wars’ principal stars have largely stayed mum.

Mark Hamill Breaks His Silence
During a recent appearance at The Hollywood Reporter’s Actor Roundtable, Hamill was asked to name an actor with whom he had never worked but always wanted to.

Quickly, Hamill named Harrison Ford.
Discussing the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Hamill was adamant that he wanted to reunite with Ford and Fisher one last time.

“I said, ‘Aren’t we going to have a moment where all 3 of us get together to raise the roof? It’ll only take 30 seconds,'” he explained.

“And JJ said, ‘Well, Mark, it’s not Luke’s story anymore.'”
A Missed Opportunity
While Abrams’ focus on introducing new Star Wars characters was obviously what the franchise needed in the long term, it is hard to imagine that a short reunion between Luke, Leia, and Han would have derailed that.

In the end, the sequel trilogy gave us a disjointed narrative that also robbed fans of seeing the franchise’s three biggest stars together one more time.
