‘Zootopia 2’ Starts 2026 With a Bang as Historic Box Office Run Continues
While much of the box office attention has turned to Avatar: Fire and Ash, Disney’s Zootopia 2 is continuing its historic theatrical run.
Hitting theaters over the week of Thanksgiving, Disney sequel reunites audiences with Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, who track the “twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down.”

“To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town. Where their growing partnership is tested like never before,” the film’s synopsis explains.
‘Zootopia 2’ Closed 2025 Strong
Fueled by a historic opening in China, Zootopia 2 came out of the gates strong last November and has maintained its momentum.

The last time we checked in, the film had surpassed Frozen 2 to become Walt Disney Animation’s highest-grossing film ever.

Now, with the first weekend of 2026 behind us, we have another exciting update!
Another Banner Weekend
Six weeks after Zooptia 2 hit theaters, the film had another remarkable weekend at the box office.

Starting the new year strong, the film added another $19 million at domestic theaters, posting a 4% week-over-week drop.
Perhaps even more impressively, Zootopia 2 bested Fire and Ash at the Chinese box office, bringing another $17.1 million to raise its Middle Kingdom gross to $598 million.

Disney’s latest animated fare has also surpassed 2012’s The Avengers ($1.52 billion) to become the twelfth-highest-grossing film of all time.
Where Will the Film End Its Run?
As last weekend showed, Zootopia 2 still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
The only question remaining is how high the film can climb.
While it remains unlikely that Disney’s latest blockbuster reaches the $2 billion mark, a final total of $1.7- $1.8 billion is certainly within reach.

With a box office total like that, it won’t be long before we hear Zootopia 3 is in development.
