‘Disneyland Handcrafted’ Documentary Release Date and Details Revealed

Lucky for us, there’s plenty of content out there, scratching the itch to know more about the processes that have brought us our favorite parks and attractions. But we’ve yet to see it all!
A new documentary will follow the journey that brought us Disneyland, through rare archival footage. Sound like a must-watch? We agree!
Here’s what you need to know about Disneyland Handcrafted!
Disneyland Handcrafted
Disneyland Handcrafted, the documentary detailing the “trials and tribulations” that accompanied the speedy creation of Disneyland, will debut on Disney+ and Disney YouTube on January 22nd!
This documentary will include rare footage from the archives, which will piece together the journey to create the park, along with inspiration, obstacles, desires, and breakthroughs.

The documentary was produced and directed by the Oscar and Emmy-nominated filmmaker, Leslie Iwerks–a name which probably sounds familiar to most Disney fans.
Leslie happens to be the granddaughter of Ub Iwerks (an original animator for Walt Disney and the co-creator of Mickey Mouse) and Don Iwerks (a Disney camera technician and inventor).

The Iwerks lineage clearly has a strong presence in Disney history, making her role in this documentary so meaningful. Leslie has worked on projects like The Hand Behind the Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story (following her grandfather’s mark on Disney), The Pixar Story, and The Imagineering Story.

The rare archival footage that will be uncovered in Disneyland Handcrafted was found through Leslie’s searching through “over 100 hours of raw material showcasing Disneyland in its earliest days.” The footage should provide us with a “fly-on-the-wall” perspective of what it would have been like to be there while Disneyland was created.

The documentary will cover everything that went into the creation of Disneyland–from the orange groves that once took over the land to the risks that came with such rapid construction.
