James Cameron Says ‘Avatar 4’ and ‘5’ Will Be Revealed If the Saga Ends Early
James Cameron is keeping the future of the Avatar franchise connected to current box office results.
The director recently confirmed in Variety that he has a backup plan if Avatar: Fire and Ash becomes the final chapter of the saga.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cameron explained that the series may not continue unless the third film proves financially successful.
“I don’t know if the saga goes beyond this point. I hope it does,” he said. “But, you know, we prove that business case every time we go out…”

If the franchise stops after Fire and Ash, Cameron plans to share what fans would have seen next.
“If we don’t get to make 4 and 5, for whatever reason, I’ll hold a press conference, and I’ll tell you what we were gonna do. How’s that?”

Cameron also shared another option — he may turn the unused scripts into novels.
“There’s so much culture and backstory and lateral detail in these characters that’s been worked out. I’d love to do something that’s at that level of granular detail.”

Disney does not need to worry yet. Avatar: Fire and Ash crossed $500 million worldwide in its first week and continues to perform strongly. The first two Avatar films both earned more than $2 billion globally.
Future plans for Avatar also include a significant shift in setting. Late producer Jon Landau previously revealed that Avatar 5 would bring the Na’vi to Earth.

Cameron has also gone back and forth on whether he will direct Avatar 4 and 5 himself. Most recently, he shared that he has left the door open, saying he is healthy and willing to continue if the schedule allows.
For Disney fans, the message is clear and positive. There are more stories ready, and whether they reach the screen depends on how far Fire and Ash goes at the box office.
