How Disney Shapes Holiday Traditions Around the World
For decades, Disney has helped shape how the holidays feel for families around the world!
Since Disneyland first opened in 1955, seasonal celebrations have been a huge part of the guest experience, blending storytelling, music, décor, and more. These special moments turned into family traditions over the years.

Here are some of the great ways Disney shapes those holiday traditions for families around the globe.
Simple Beginnings
Disney
Holiday magic at Disney began simply with carolers and festive decorations, then grew into iconic experiences like the Candlelight Processional, introduced by Walt Disney in 1958.
Today, seasonal events span every park, including Haunted Mansion Holiday, “It’s a Small World” Holiday, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and Jollywood Nights.
Each special offering builds on familiar stories while adding new reasons to visit each season.
Global Impact

Around the world, Disney parks are sure to represent local culture while keeping the same sense of warmth and wonder.
Tokyo Disney Resort blends seasonal cheer with Japanese traditions. Disneyland Paris feels like a European holiday market. Parks in Hong Kong and Shanghai transition from winter celebrations into Lunar New Year, honoring regional customs through décor and entertainment.

Holiday traditions also extend to the seas. Disney Cruise Line’s Very Merrytime Cruises transform ships into floating holiday destinations, complete with themed entertainment, special menus, and character experiences.
Community Mission

Giving back to the community remains central to Disney’s holiday mission. From creating the original Toys for Tots poster in 1948 to today’s Disney Ultimate Toy Drive, Disney continues to support families in need through toy donations and volunteer efforts worldwide.
