Hollywood Legend Rob Reiner Has Passed Away at 78
The entertainment world is in mourning today after the tragic news that Rob Reiner was found dead in his Brentwood home Sunday afternoon alongside his wife, Michele Singer.
While details remain scarce, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that it was investigating the couple’s deaths as homicides. Subsequently, Reiner’s son was taken into custody.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” his family said in a statement.
Early Fame and ‘All in the Family’
While Rob Reiner would eventually become one of the great directors of his generation, he began his career in Hollywood as an actor.

The son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, Rob rose to fame with his performance of the opinionated Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family.

Over the course of the show’s nine-season run, Reiner would garner two Emmy Awards.
Transition to Directing
In the 1980s, Reiner transitioned from acting to directing. Beginning with 1984’s This Is Spinal Tap, he delivered one of the great runs in cinematic history, subsequently helming Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992).

His later films included Alex & Emma (2003), Rumor Has It… (2005), The Bucket List (2007), And So It Goes (2014), and Albert Brooks: Defending My Life (2023).
Work With Disney
While Rob Reiner did not have many Disney connections, he did direct 1999’s The Story of Us for Touchstone.

With their 2019 purchase of 20th Century Fox, The Princess Bride officially became a Disney film.
Later Career
After establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s most successful directors, Reiner continued to act.

Later in his career, he would have memorable appearances in The Wolf of Wall Street, 30 Rock, and New Girl. Finally, Reiner recently appeared on Season 4 of Hulu’s The Bear.
