Happy 124th Birthday, Walt Disney! Today marks another year of honoring the visionary who reshaped animation, storytelling, and themed entertainment as we know it.

Walt Disney
Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago before moving to Marceline, Missouri, as a child, and later to Hollywood.
His early interest in drawing and storytelling shaped his path from the start.

In his teens, he contributed cartoons to his McKinley High School newspaper and studied art in the evenings. After serving in World War I with the Red Cross, he returned home determined to work in animation.
In 1923, Walt and his brother Roy founded the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio (later Walt Disney Productions and The Walt Disney Company), marking the beginning of a creative partnership.

Their first major success came with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but losing the rights pushed Walt to create Mickey Mouse in 1928. “Steamboat Willie” came next and changed the standards of animated film overnight.
“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” premiered in 1937 as the first full-length animated feature, proving audiences would embrace ambitious storytelling, and helping the studio expand.

Disney’s history includes films like “Pinocchio,” “Fantasia,” “Cinderella,” and “Peter Pan,” each advancing animation techniques and narrative style.
Walt’s attention later turned to creating a clean, family-oriented place where adults and children could have fun together: Disneyland. The park opened in 1955 and became the first major themed entertainment destination built around immersive lands and character-driven experiences.

He later announced plans for a second project in Florida, including an entire Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT).
Walt passed away from lung cancer in 1966 before seeing Walt Disney World completed, but his team carried the vision forward.
