Dick Van Dyke Hosts Two-Hour Sing-Along Just Days Before His 100th Birthday
With just days to go until his 100th birthday, Dick Van Dyke hosted a fan celebration last weekend in Malibu, California.
The two-hour event, which was co-hosted by his wife, Arlene Silver, raised funds to benefit the Dick Van Dyke Museum and The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts.

“There are several reasons for having these — all good — but mine is to revive the art of conversation,” Van Dyke told the audience (via PEOPLE).

“I don’t care if you’re on a street, you’re in a bus or in a restaurant, everybody’s looking at their phones. Nobody talks. I’ve seen young couples having dinner together and they’re both looking at their phones. I may be the only person in the United States over 10 who does not have a cell phone. I don’t have a phone.”
Playing the Hits
Joined by his a cappella group, The Vantastix, Van Dyke sang some of his most memorable songs for fans.

The performance included “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” “You Two,” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
According to a report by People, when an audience member asked Van Dyke what his favorite Christmas song was, the Disney Legend and The Vantastix broke into “Caroling, Caroling.”

Finally, other songs included in the sing-along were “Carolina in the Morning” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show” scene.
The Hollywood Legend’s Big Day Is Just Around the Corner
While Van Dyke has admitted that aging has begun to take a toll on his health, he has long been adamant that music is the best medicine.

If that is true, then last weekend’s event may have been just the pick-me-up that the Hollywood legend needed ahead of his 100th birthday on December 12.
