‘Zootopia 2’ Exceeds Expectations With a $140 Million Domestic Opening
After a series of disappointing releases, Disney returned to movie theaters this week with the highly anticipated Zootopia 2.
Reuniting audiences with Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, the film will see the dynamic duo follow the “twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down.”

“To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town. Where their growing partnership is tested like never before,” the film’s synopsis explains.
The Film Is Already Exceeding Expectations
As we previously reported, Zootopia 2 has long been tracking like another Disney blockbuster. The only real question was how high the film’s opening could climb.

After a record-setting preview frame yesterday, it is my pleasure to report that Zootopia 2 is now heading towards a $140 million domestic debut.
That is $15 million more than the film was projected to gross in its opening frame.

Factoring in its Tuesday previews, Zootopia 2 is looking at a $39 million opening day, which is the second-best opening on a Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

The only film to have a better Thanksgiving start is last year’s Moana 2 ($57.8 million).
Disney Has Reasons To Be Thankful
With Zootopia 2 off to a historic start in China, it now seems clear that Disney has another hit on their hands.

The only question now is how well the film will hold up week over week.
With 93% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore rating, it looks like Zootopia 2 could have an extended box office run.

Clearly, Disney has a lot to be thankful for.
