‘Zootopia 2’ Scores $10+ Million in Previews

After a largely disappointing year at the box office, Disney is returning to theaters this week with the highly anticipated Zootopia 2.

Reuniting audiences with Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, the film will see the dynamic duo follow the “twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down.”

“To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town. Where their growing partnership is tested like never before,” the film’s synopsis explains.

Another Disney Blockbuster?

As we previously reported, Zootopia 2 is tracking towards a massive opening.  In fact, by the end of its first weekend in theaters, the film could be looking at a global cume of $270 million.

Now, we can confirm that the film has gotten off to a great start!

A Record-Setting Preview Gross

Accoridng to a new report from Deadline, Zootopia 2 i set to earn $10.2 million in previews today, the second-highest start for a Walt Disney Animated Studios film ever.

By the end of the day, Disney’s latest sequel will trail only Moana 2 ($13.8 million) and will be ahead of Frozen II ($8.5 million) on the all-time preview list.

More importantly, by the end of the weekend, Zootopia 2 is expected to have grossed $125 million domestically. This, despite the success of Wicked: For Good.

All signs point towards Disney having another blockbuster on its hands. Now, the question will be how well the film holds up.
