‘Zootopia 2’ Is Tracking Towards a MASSIVE Chinese Opening
When Bob Iger returned to the helm of The Walt Disney Company, one of his first moves was to repair his studios’ relationship with China.
After years of being locked out from the Chinese box office, Disney announced that Avatar: The Way of Water had secured an extended release window in the country. The news came just two days after Iger’s triumphant return to the company.
Eventually, The Way of Water would capitalize on its extended run in China, grossing over $240 million there.

While Disney has not been able to maintain that level of success at the Chinese box office, its latest animated feature film is making quite the splash in the Middle Kingdom.
‘Zootopia 2’ Is Tracking Towards a Massive Opening
According to a new report from Koimoi, Zootopia 2 has racked up $15 million in Chinese pre-sale tickets, the highest total for a Hollywood film since The Way of Water.
Perhaps more surprisingly, the film is now outperforming Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle in pre-sales.
With just one day to go before the film hits Chinese theaters, Zootopia 2 could be looking at an opening of $55-$70 million.

Such a debut could give the film the 2nd biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood film in the post-pandemic era.
Good News For Disney
If Zootopia 2 is going to reach the lofty box-office goals both observers and Disney have for it, the film will need to perform well overseas.

Even a $55 million Chinese debut would go a long way to propelling the latest Zootopia film forward for what could be a $1 billion+ run.
Needless to say, all eyes will be on the Chinese box office tomorrow.
