Major announcement for Jungle Cruise fans- and it’s not a good one. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt have just shared a major update on the highly anticipated Jungle Cruise sequel, and fans waiting for another voyage may not hear “skipper” jokes anytime soon.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, both stars confirmed the sequel is no longer expected to move forward.

When asked about the film’s future, the pair responded together with “I don’t think so.” Johnson shared “I think when Disney came under new leadership, they just shifted coming out of COVID,” he said.
“COVID shifted our business in a lot of ways. I think they looked at that property and thought, we did it once, not sure if we should revisit it again. Despite whether or not our chemistry was great.” Blunt added that “they did not want to set sail again, and that’s fine.”

The original Jungle Cruise was released in 2021 and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. It was based on Walt Disney’s classic theme park attraction and blended adventure, humor, and nods to the iconic ride.

The film earned about $221 million worldwide right after the pandemic. Johnson played skipper Frank Wolff, with Blunt as botanist Dr. Lily Houghton, in a story inspired by the ride’s legendary river journey and iconic banter.
Disney has not commented on the decision, but for now, it looks like no sequel is in sight.
