Behind the Disney Destiny: Joe Schott Talks About Disney Cruise Line’s Future
The Disney Destiny is officially sailing, and fans are buzzing about the newest Disney Cruise Line ship.

Disney
DCL president Joe Schott recently sat down to share insight on the ship’s launch, its bold heroes and villains theme, and how the cruise line is shaping Disney’s global expansion.
You can read the whole interview here, and we’re breaking down the key points for Disney fans.
Heroes and Villains

Schott explained that the Disney Destiny stands apart thanks to its concept of heroes and villains.
The Grand Hall sets the tone with a Wakanda-inspired design and a striking Black Panther welcome.

Guests will see this theme woven throughout the ship with a Lion King dining experience, a new Hercules stage show, and exclusive lounges themed to Cruella de Vil and Dr. Facilier.
These spaces help deepen character storytelling while delivering the same crew-driven service fans expect.

He also discussed how this theme connects to the company’s broader plans, including the upcoming Villains Land at Walt Disney World.
Connections and Theming
Disney Cruise Line is also playing a growing role in expanding the brand worldwide, with the company on track to reach a 13-ship fleet by 2031!

Disney Destiny
Schott also emphasized that cruising lets Disney reach new audiences, introduce fresh markets to Disney stories, and deliver high guest satisfaction.
Schott shared that ideas flow both ways between theme parks and ships.

Experiences like Cask & Cannon and the Haunted Mansion Parlor are inspired directly by the parks, while innovations from the cruise line help influence new concepts across Disney Experiences.
A Global Community
Schott further highlighted the cruise line’s global reach, noting that ships act as ambassadors for the brand as they travel.

The fleet’s appeal to families, adults, and international travelers continues to grow, and the upcoming Disney Adventure in Singapore will introduce Disney cruising to Southeast Asia with locally inspired dining, entertainment, and design.
